Hardware Timed Output with cDAQ 9172 and NI 9401

I am using a NI 9401 in a cDAQ 9172 chassis and want to output a hardware timed pulse pattern. My understanding is that I must use the internal counter of the cDAQ 9172 as sample clock for the digtial output. But I don't know, which channel I have to use.
